MUSIC, LYRICS, ATTITUDE
NEKRODEUS’ music is loaded with the uncompromising heaviness of sludgy death metal, the gnarled emotional depths of modern black metal and the in-your-face angriness of hardcore and punk. their lyrics written in german and english, are dealing with anger, frustration and weltschmerz, staring deeply into an abyss of decadence, nihilism and misanthropy.
when it comes to the production of recordings, videos, artworks and merchandise, the band is pursuing a D.I.Y. attitude, with SEBASTIAN LACKNER being a professional graphic-designer and videographer and STEFAN RINDLER being a self-taught artist, most of the band’s output is planned, designed and produced by NEKRODEUS.
BIOGRAPHY
2013
NEKRODEUS was founded by previous members of the austrian melodic death metal band “BLASPHEMIST” (formerly known as ZODIAC). rooted in death metal, the first songs were written quickly, resulting in a self-produced two-track demo (DEMO 2013) released in the same year.
NEKRODEUS played their first show at the infamous CLUB Q in their hometown GRAZ, several well-received shows and a first EP (PUTRID SCENT OF GRAVE PERVERSION) followed along.
the departure of their vocalist MORITZ POLLINGER left the band with one vocalist, nevertheless NEKRODEUS was continuing and gaining more and more traction within the local scene.
2014/15
after a couple of concerts and their first international show, the bands drummer FLORIAN PLOCHL decided to leave NEKRODEUS. it wasn‘t until 2016 that a new drummer was found, thus bringing the project to an unexpected halt.
2016/17
PAUL FÄRBER joined the band on drums, which led into the writing process for their first full length album MOLOCH and a change in style.
NEKRODEUS combined their death metal approach with crushing sludge and hardcore as well as a good chunk of faster, more aggressive black metal and punk influences.
2018/19
MOLOCH was released in 2018 along with two self-produced music videos. the record was well-received by audience and critics and re-released on vinyl in 2019 by local supporters METAL ARROGANCE and TERATOGEN.
Later in 2019 NEKRODEUS recorded a cover of NAPALM DEATHS’ COMMON ENEMY for an international tribute compilation.
2020
NEKROEUS played an international mini-tour shortly before the beginning of the pandemic, all other planned shows were cancelled due to the subsequent restrictions. the ongoing events led the band to focus on the songwriting for their already highly anticipated follow-up to MOLOCH and their participation in other projects.
ALEXANDER LACKNER decided to focus on his work as a sound engineer and thus leave NEKRODEUS, which resulted in MICHAEL IBER remaining as the sole guitarist in the band. of course ALEXANDER LACKNER would be hired later on to take on the recording duties for the planned album production.
2021
alongside to finishing their new full-length record ASBEST, NEKRODEUS released a self-recorded track and another self-produced video (CITY OF DECLINE) in support of the ongoing protest against the prohibition of street-skateboarding, that was enacted in their hometown during the year.
later in 2021 a deal with local record label GRAZIL RECORDS was signed, with ASBEST to be released in April 2022 via GRAZIL RECORDS, TERATOGEN and local supporter METAL ARROGANCE.
